Welcome to the 97th Congress of the German Society of Neurology, which will take place in Berlin from November 6 to 9, 2024. This year's congress is under the motto "Neurology and Immunology - common perspectives!", which focuses on the promising connections between these two disciplines.
Our steering group, supported by the DGN Training Academy and Young Neurology, has developed a program that covers the entire spectrum of neurology. From practice-relevant topics to scientific excellence, everything is there to offer you four exciting and inspiring days.
In this year's program, we will examine how the inclusion of immunological approaches opens up new perspectives for neurology. Traditionally, we clearly differentiate neurological diseases from one another. But a closer look often reveals overlapping pathophysiological mechanisms, such as in stroke and multiple sclerosis. The latest studies are already investigating the use of MS drugs to treat strokes in order to block secondary inflammatory reactions - an example of the immense potential of these interdisciplinary approaches.
Neuro-oncology is also receiving new impetus from immunological issues. Innovative therapies such as CAR-T cell therapies or checkpoint inhibitors use the immune system to fight tumors. These developments show that we in neurology should work more closely together and make the boundaries between the individual clinical pictures more permeable.
